Forestry Tires Grow in Importance

A University of Wisconsin study of 65 years of climate data found that loggers are losing a key ally to their forestry operations in the woods—frozen ground.  Because of climate change, Loggers are working 2 to 3 weeks longer in muddy conditions than they did in 1948, the result of a steady shift in winter harvest conditions.

It’s more important than ever for loggers and other forestry professionals to make sure they have the equipment to work efficiently, safely and in an environmentally appropriate manner in all that mud.  And that means logging tires are more important than ever.

Let's face it: as the authors of the study pointed out in the Journal of Environmental Management, keeping a logging outfit running nowadays—with all the investment you have in equipment and crews—takes year-round operations. Blown tires or stuck machinery can kill your profit, especially when you're deep in the forests and far from a service truck. Durability, traction, flotation and self-cleaning are critical tire benefits that can improve your efficiency and your bottom line.

At ATG, our line of Primex forestry flotation tires delivers that efficiency-boosting performance while also providing maximum protection to fragile forest floors. The Primex Logstomper Super Flotation HF-4, for example, is constructed with steel undertread plies for a massive footprint, plus deep lugs for traction. That combination provides access to areas that have traditionally been inaccessible, while lightening the compaction force of heavy logging equipment. When you read the University of Wisconsin study, you'll recognize that this tire's flotation capabilities will be even more important in the future.

With rugged, reliable Logstomper line of forestry tires geared to everything from harvesters to skidders, Primex brand has at least 30 percent of the U.S. forestry tire market now.  If you talk to guys like Jeff Brown, a buncher operator with Hammil Logging in North Carolina, you will know why.
