Alliance Flotation Agri-Transport Tires

Flotation tires are known for their wide footprints that reduce the ground pressure exerted by heavy farm equipment—like tankers and trailers used for transporting goods and materials—spreading the load over a larger area than conventional tires. This attribute allows machinery to “float” on top of wet or soft surfaces. Flotation tires are an important tool for farmers, often meaning the difference between accomplishing fieldwork or waiting for more favorable conditions. 

Taking Alliance Brand Tires to New Heights 

We together with our German distributor Bohnenkamp sponsored an extreme high-altitude truck expedition in the Ojos del Saldo mountains in South America. The expedition's aim was to install high-mountain shelters and lifesaving solar-powered emergency radio communication systems. The team, led by Matthias Jeschke, on two Unimog trucks mounted on Alliance tires, reached the height of 6400 meters (just under 21,000 feet) and successfully completed the mission.

Debuting the Alliance 398 MPT Tire 

About a month ago, our cousins at Alliance Tire Group of Europe took over the famed Audi Experience Driving Center in Neuburg an der Donau, Germany, to introduce our high-speed Alliance 398 MPT tire to the European market. Though the 398 MPT—the industry’s only DOT-rated directional flotation tire—debuted in the North American market at last year’s Farm Progress Show, our counterparts across the pond substantially upped the ante by putting a mix of journalists and industry partners behind the wheel of real farm equipment and letting them put our claims to the test.

Flotation Tires: From Farm to Forest 

Though the cutting and harvesting of timber is the primary concern of logging operations, the protection of the forest floor from heavy equipment is also a priority for forward-thinking operations. Increasingly large and powerful logging machinery could cause damage to the ground and rip up the root map, slowing the time it takes for the forest to regenerate, reducing the rate of biomass production (resulting in less income), and making landowners unhappy. Fortunately for loggers—and forests—the use of flotation forestry tires is a simple way to minimize compaction and rutting.
